Police took a different kind of step this weekend.
Your local officer – used to clocking up thousands of visible steps each year on patrol in our villages – joined the Bishop of Repton for a special Palm Sunday foot procession today, (Sunday 29 March).
Beginning at Saint Michael’s Church, Willington, police walked alongside the Right Reverend Malcolm Macnaughton, and several willing members of the congregation, in making their way across the bridge and causeway to St Wystan’s Church, Repton.
The walk culminated in the heart of Repton, when residents from other churches, including Foremark and Newton Solney, met at the Cross roundabout for the final few steps of the procession, before entering the village church.
Those taking part in the occasion highlighted the importance of reflection and community spirit.
The engagement forms part of Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team’s ongoing commitment to engage with faith groups across the area.
Afterwards, local people gathered with the Reverend Steve Short in Repton to continue fellowship.
Thank you to Bishop Malcolm and everyone from local churches who made our officer so welcome – it was appreciated.
